Action Times

The Action Times metric dashboard highlights individual nursing team members whose behavior related to the elapsed times between transactions stands out from their peers. The dashboard allows the user to trace outliers within the cohort who take longer to close out documentation, record administrations, or waste medications related to the first medication event for a patient. ControlCheck users can use the application's display to narrow down areas of greater risk and focus investigative energies.

Access the Dashboard

Navigate to the Analytics tab in the main dashboard menu and select User Analytics in the dropdown menu. This will forward you to the IRIS Worklist where you can then select the Action Times Metriclink to view its dashboard.

Filters

The Action Times metric dashboard allows for the following filters:

  • Date Range - allows you to select a start date and end date for your data
  • Department
  • User
  • Role
  • Show Action Times Between filters:
    • First/Last Touch filter - measures the elapsed time between the first medication transaction for a patient by a user and the last medication transaction for that same patient, user, and case.
    • First Dispense/First Admin filter - measures the time elapsed between the first dispense of a medication for a patient and the first administration of that same medication on that same patient. The elapsed time is attributed to the user of the record for the administration.
    • Last Admin/Last Waste - the time between the last administration of a patient-medication combination, and the last waste of that same patient-medication combination, regardless of the provider performing either transaction. The elapsed time is attributed to the waster if the providers are different.
  • Time Elapsed filter - allows you to allows you to adjust the minimum time (in hours) that has elapsed between events. Transactions included are dispenses, administrations, wastes, and returns.

The CLEAR ALL link allows you to reset your filters while the Download PDF button allows you to download a copy of the metric dashboard.

Interact with the Dashboard

Users should first select a date range and the desired filter to reflect the nature of the investigative question. The default view auto-calculates the Minimum Time Window to be the maximum number to display at least 10 providers; the time window can be adjusted on demand. The dashboard will display N/A in any tiles for which there are no results based on the applied filters. Adjust filter settings to populate data.

Based on the applied parameters, the display will update. The results are ranked top to bottom by the highest count of the selected relationship, and the count is displayed in the circular icon (dependent on size).

Investigate the Data

To view the specific, detailed events included in a nursing team member's results for a specific relationship, first hover over the circular icon for that individual. Once a user is highlighted, the popup window with the user's summary statistics will appear. Click on the highlighted circular icon to view all of the relevant medication events from that user; the results will load in a new browser tab.

A Note on the Data & Methods

All patient-medication event summaries are included for analysis in this dashboard, regardless of their status or outcome, except for open variances created within the preceding three days.

Any event summaries connected to unmapped identifiers (medication, user), regardless of status or state, are excluded from the counts in this dashboard. Once mapping is completed and the related data is processed, the resulting event summaries will be included in any relevant metrics.
