Enabling Infusions

Solution Scope

• ControlCheck provides a solution for auditing continuous infusions in a Nursing, OR, and Pharmacy setting.
• This solution is currently in beta with a set number of already live Epic customers and only captures dispense, admin, and return events. Waste reconciliation is not included.
• Reconciliation is done at the ‘unit’ level, meaning actual discrete administration of mass amounts is not considered.
• There are scenarios where a different medication form is dispensed (e.g. injectables) and an infusion is administered. The current solution does not reconcile these events since the medications are mapped to different generics in ControlCheck.

Technical Requirements

The following are required to audit continuous infusions in ControlCheck:

• Must be an Epic customer.
• Must be using an Epic adapter that can read in New Bag events.
• Must be sending dispense, admin, and return events for controlled substance infusions in daily source files.
• Must have the Infusions Enabled Hospital Setting turned on from Admin Tools.
• Must have a unique identifier for the desired infusion medication to be mapped to an audited Infusion in the ControlCheck formulary. Shared identifiers between injections and infusions cannot be audited as infusions.
• Must have the infusion medications set with package sizes in 1 unit.
