Medication Mapper What if I don't find the drug I want in the list?

Sometimes mapping isn't always clean and easy. You might not find a match in the Suggested Medications list for your selected drug. If that's the case, follow the steps below to manually enter information and map your medications.

In the Medication Mapper:

  1. Click Select on the medication you want to map. You will see your chosen medication in the Selected Unmapped Medication section as well as suggestions for mapping options in the Medications in your ControlCheck Formulary section.

  2. Use keywords in the Selected Unmapped Medication name such as Patch in the example image below to help narrow the list of possible matches. Looking at the Suggested Medications, we can see that there is no match with the same Form Factor and Concentration.

  1. Click the link at the bottom of the table if you do not find the correct medication in the suggestion list.

  2. On this page, search all of the available generic medications available for mapping. Use the Search by Generic Medication field to narrow your search by typing the first few letters of the unmapped medication name.

Identify Identifiers

The value in the Identifiers column in the Medication Mapper is the Med ID or NDC from your source files. If you are unsure what the medication is, we recommend plugging that identifier into your source systems to confirm what the correct mapping should be.

In the example below, the search "aceta" yielded the results shown in the Generic Medication table. Look for the result that matches the concentration or strength, and form factor of the unmapped med. The generic med of Acetaminophen 500mg with a form factor of Oral is the selected med to map to.

  1. Select it from the list and click Next.
  2. Now enter the package information.
    a. Package Size - Enter the package size of the unmapped medication. Use information from the umapped medication to determine the package size. In the example below, 1 tablet implies that the dose or package is 1 unit.

  1. Click Next.
  2. In the Medication Audit State section, select the module(s) you want to audit this medication.
    a. Patient Care
    b. Pharmacy
    c. Do not audit this medication
  3. Click Map Identifier.

You're all done! ControlCheck will remove the medication from the Unmapped Medication section and the alert count will reduce by one.
