Medication Mapper Overview

Welcome to the Medication Mapper in ControlCheck!

Mapping medications frequently and correctly is extremely important to maximize the auditing and tracking power of the ControlCheck product (ControlCheck). Fortunately, ControlCheck makes it easy to know when new medications need to be mapped.

Manage Tab Alert

Upon logging into ControlCheck, you'll know if there are items that need to be mapped if you see a red alert bubble next to the Manage tab.

The red alert bubble indicates the number of items that need to be mapped in multiple categories, not only Medication Mapper, such as users and locations. Items that need to be managed and mapped are those that have not been seen by your ControlCheck system before. This is the first time that ControlCheck has seen their identifer - a unique code that ControlCheck uses to track individual items - from all files. If something looks new, it's flagged in the Manage tab.

Accessing the Medication Mapper

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Select the "Manage" tab in the top navigation bar.
  2. Locate the "Mappings" section in the left-hand side menu.
  3. Select "Unmapped Medications".

Unmapped Medications

Once you are in the Medication Mapper there are two available medication sections:

  1. Unmapped: Potentially Controlled - Displays a list of unmapped medications that the application has identified as possibly controlled, based on the application name.
  2. Unmapped: Other - Displays medications that ControlCheck could not identify as controlled based on medication name. For example, ControlCheck will not be able to catch brand-name controlled substances, so they will likely appear in the Unmapped: Other section for mapping. Additionally, there might be medications in this section you do not want to audit in ControlCheck. You can ignore these meds using the selecting the "Ignore Checked" button. If there are medications listed as Unmapped: Other that are controlled, or you want to audit you can still choose to map them despite appearing in this section.

You will be mapping medications to each other or to a generic drug that exists in the application. You can sort each column by clicking on the arrow that displays by each header. You can sort by one column at a time.

Each medication section will include the following headers:

  • Medication Name - Displays the medication name as populated in the source file.
  • Identifiers - Displays the Med ID or NDC from your source files. If you are unsure what the medication is, we recommend plugging that identifier into your source systems to confirm what the correct mapping should be.
  • Pending Patients - Displays a count of patient records that are being blocked from processing by the unmapped medication. After a medication is mapped, it will no longer be held in a pending status and will appear in the Audit table in an open status if a variance is detected.
Prioritize Patients!
Select the "Pending Patients" value to open a new page and see each patient being blocked, along with the patient's MRN and/or FIN.
