Time to Admin and Waste

Use the Time to Admin and Waste report in System Benchmarks to view how long providers in a given hospital or department are in possession of controlled substances before they administer or waste them. The Time to Admin and Waste report allows you to see when there are specific hospitals or departments that are either meeting or exceeding time frame constraints. 

For example, if you have a hospital policy that all medications must be administered within 60 minutes of dispense, the Time to Admin and Waste report will provide clear data on whether that policy is being followed or not. 

Access the Time to Admin and Waste Page

Navigate to the Analyze tab in the main dashboard menu and select System Benchmarks in the drop-down menu. This will forward you to the System Benchmarks page where you can then select the Time to Admin and Waste tab in the left-side menu. 

Filters

By choosing a date range and selecting the View Report button you can initiate your search before the application attempts to load or return data. 

After the initial query, you can filter the data further by:

• Hospitals
• Departments - When in Department View.

Download Report

You can select the Download Report button to download the Time to Admin and Waste report data to a CSV or PDF file. 

Review Report Data and Views

You can view the data for the time between administration and waste in a graph or table view. The default view is Graph. 

You can also view data for the hospital (System View) or department (Department View). These views display the hospitals and departments you have access to. The default view is System View.

You can easily toggle between Graph and Table views in the Time to Admin and Waste report. Your filters and the accompanying data will remain the same, but the format presents itself differently based on the view you select. 

The Time to Admin and Waste displays the following information:

• Hospital/Department Name
• Dispense to Admin - The average time, in minutes, it takes providers to administer a medication from the first dispense of that medication.
• Admin to Waste - The average time, in minutes, it takes providers to waste a medication of the last administration of that medication. 
• Total number of events in the selected date range for that hospital/department

System View

Department View

You can drill down into a hospital system and view data by the department by clicking on the hospital in System View. Once you are in the Department View, you can toggle between the Graph or Table format to display the data in different formats. The data displayed in Department View is the same as System View, but per department, rather than the whole hospital. 

To go back to System View, click View System Data.
