System Benchmarks - Access Enhancements

In the spring of 2020, ControlCheck rolled out a cool new analytic called System Benchmarks. We spent a few months validating the value it provided to our customers and slowly enabled it for select hospitals and users before publicly rolling out the feature in the fall of 2020 and encouraging users to reach out to their Solutions Consultant to enable the analytics for them. The process for enabling this feature for hospitals and users has been a very manual one for both the customer and the internal Kit Check team and we are pleased to officially launch this feature to all hospitals.

All hospitals using ControlCheck are in a hospital group with at least one hospital in the group. Some health systems, or IDNs, contain over 10 hospitals in the group; while other hospitals are in a group by themselves. Because all hospitals are in a group with at least one hospital, they all now have System Benchmarks “enabled” for the group they are a member of within ControlCheck.

To grant System Benchmarks access to hospital users, navigate to the Manage tab and click

Account Management. Then, click the name of the user you wish to give access to. Under the

Account Roles section, add the System Benchmarks role to the users account and click Save.

In this example, the hospital Taco Bellevue is in the Taco Health System with another hospital called JGL Hospital.

When the user views the System Benchmarks report, they will see data for these two hospitals in the group.

The launch plan for this update includes the following:

  • All existing users of System Benchmarks will retain their existing access; no further action is required.
  •  All existing Manager users will be given the System Benchmarks Account Role at all hospitals they are Manager users at.
  •  The System Benchmarks users will only see hospitals in the System Benchmarks report for hospitals which they have the System Benchmarks role at.
  • Any user can have the System Benchmarks role added to their account.
  • Manager users who want to give access to non-Manager users can do so by adding the Account Role to that user’s account under Account Management.

It is important to note that giving a user the Account Role for System Benchmarks does not grant them login privileges into ControlCheck. The System Benchmarks role must be accompanied by another Account Role (e.g. User, Manager, Labs User, etc.) in order to to be able to login to the app. A user can have two account roles, User and System Benchmarks, and when they login, they will only see data that their security role grants and their System Benchmarks report would contain data for the hospitals they have the System Benchmarks role at.

User Mapper - User Data Enhancements

The User Mapper and View User Mapping pages have been enhanced to present the User’s ID or other uniquely identifying data more often during the workflow. Uniquely identifying users in ControlCheck is crucial to the accuracy of our proprietary IRIS data. Users of hospital’s source systems, such as RNs, CRNAs, and Anesthesiologists, have profiles in those source systems that typically include a name and unique identifier, at a minimum. The User ID is more unique than the user’s name for many reasons; sometimes names are slightly different in two systems (e.g. James Smith goes by Jim Smith in the EMR system); sometimes a user gets married and changes their last name so now it is different in the source system than originally mapped in ControlCheck.

We want our ControlCheck Manager users to have a quick, easy experience when maintaining user mapping in ControlCheck so we have added the User Data (usually contains the User ID) to a few other tables during the User Mapper workflow. When an unmapped user shares a common name with a mapped user, ControlCheck will suggest that existing user as a possible match to be merged together with. Before adding in the User Data to Possible Matches table, it was difficult to determine if James Smith, RN and Jim Smith, RN were in fact the same user. By displaying the existing User ID we have for James Smith in the User Data column, we can quickly decide if he is the same as our unmapped Jim Smith by comparing the User IDs.

Look for additional enhancements to the User Mapper workflow in an upcoming release!
