New Features

Pharmacy Module UI/UX Improvements

We are excited to improve the Pharmacy Module UI/UX with the introduction of Event Summaries!

Why is this important? This update improves the usability of auditing transactions, brings the page in line with other auditing sections of the application, and establishes a foundation for future functionality updates and additional reconciliation logic.

  • What’s offered:
    • We have removed the table of events and replaced them with Event Summary Cards with the goal of improving the usability of the page and allowing for scalability to include additional event types.
    • These improvements contain UI and workflow improvements. Nothing has changed at this time in terms of the actions you can take on these events.
  • Additional Information:
    • The next improvement in the Pharmacy Module will include Inventory Movement Reconciliation for Omnicell and Pyxis, which will bring in movement events from the central pharmacy vault to automated dispensing cabinets, including distributed dispenses (multiple reload/refill events) and return events.
      • We are still accepting beta users for both Omnicell and Pyxis, please reach out to elijah.simpson@bluesight.com if you are interested in being included in the beta process.

Updated Investigation Closure Reasons

We are excited to introduce updated Investigation Closure Reasons!

Why is this important?

Many hospitals can’t fully leverage the Investigation workflow due to the lack of standardized closure reasons, which is resolved with this change. This also sets a foundation for future functionality improvements such as custom sub-reasons. Finally, it adds an extra step in the closure process to allow for confirmation of the action.

  • What’s offered:
    • We have updated the closure reasons for Investigations to align more with the purpose of Investigations, which is determining the outcome of suspected drug diversion activity. These new closure reasons include the following options:
      • Diversion Confirmed
      • Diversion Suspected but Review Inconclusive
      • No Diversion Activity
    • We have also included an extra step when closing an Investigation and selecting the closure option, which helps with confirmation that you do want to close this Investigation right now.
    • We have also updated the status UI under Investigation Summary to improve the user experience.

  • The Close Reason filer in the Investigations list now includes an “Other” option which will return Investigations with a historical closure reason.

New IRIS Metric - Overrides

We are excited to add a new IRIS Override metric for IRIS Worklist users! This will be a new behavior that highlights providers with unusually high override dispenses.

Why is this important? An override allows a nurse to remove a medication in urgent situations before a pharmacist reviews the order. Without this step, overrides create a risk point/ opportunity for drug diversion.

  • Example: - John Doe has 2 overrides across departments: - Dept 1: Overrode 1 out of 18 dispenses, with 1 related to Lorazepam. - Dept 2: Overrode 1 out of 24 dispenses, with 1 related to Propofol.
    • This feature will be available for IRIS Worklist customers only via a hospital setting and will only be enabled in the Nursing Module
    • Detailed Risk Score Analysis Panel will support an Overrides Metric with a description that displays the total overrides across departments and for each department (top 3), descriptions that display the medication with the most override events.
    • Each listed department will be hyperlinked to the Investigate Data page with the specific override events and hoverable tooltip, indicating an override dispense
  • What’s not offered:
    • A metric report page on the side navigation
    • Tracking overrides not linked to an order

Department Tagging: Non-Procedural/ Procedural

We are excited to support department tagging for categorizing a department as    Non-Procedural or Procedural! Users may now tag existing and newly created departments with one of these categories.

Why is this important?

There is currently no distinction between Procedural & Non-Procedural departments in ControlCheck, which is necessary for future improvements in peer group comparisons and IRIS scoring. These departments operate differently with their medication handling, volume of medications, etc.

  • Ability to categorize a department as Non-Procedural or Procedural (radio button) on the following pages:
    • “Edit - Department” page when updating an existing department
  • “Manage - Departments” page when adding a new department
  • “Unmapped Locations” page when adding a new department
  • By default, all existing departments will be categorized as Non-Procedural and will require hospital admin with “Manage” access to update
  • Note: In this feature release, updating the department categorization will not have any impact on IRIS scoring

Updates & Improvements

  • We are now filtering out credit rebills on EDI invoices (within the same day)
    • Customers can order a medication and then cancel the order, which results in them not receiving it. We can see these ordered and canceled events in the EDI Invoice Report however, the medication still appears on the audit table as if they were ordered. This causes confusion for customers.
    • For this first iteration, we have scoped this to be within the same day, meaning the invoice and rebill happen within that same time frame. We will further enhance this in the future to allow for a selectable date range for instances where the invoice and rebill happen on separate days.
  • Help icons have a different design on the Audit, Edit User, Med Mapper, and Analytics pages. To improve user experience, we updated this icon application-wide to maintain consistency in the appearance throughout the app.

Fixes

  • An issue with name parsing where providers with a DO role are having names parsed incorrectly, leading to duplicate providers
  • Users are unable to see new departments after creating them in the UI
  • Fixed typo in IRIS score text with duplicate the

Upcoming Features, Improvements, and Bug Fixes (next release)

Release 173 - Week of 06-03-24

  • We will be introducing the ability to export the list of Security Roles at the Hospital Level for Management users to a CSV file. It will include a line item for each security role name, how many users are applied to that security role, and the permissions assigned to that security role.
