We are working to support ControlCheck on Microsoft Edge v 79 and above by March 1, 2022. As part of offering this new support for Edge, we are also working to develop a plan and timeline to suspend support for IE11.
There are a number of reasons behind this decision, including:
- Microsoft is rapidly phasing out their support for IE11.
- It is unsustainable for our QA Team to provide testing support for 3 browsers (this includes manual testing of bug fixes, new features, and regression testing). Supporting 3 browsers will significantly slow things down.
- The new Microsoft Edge (v 79 and above) is based on Chromium and was released January 15, 2020. It's compatible with all supported versions of Windows, and with macOS.
Currently 12% of our ControlCheck users are still using IE11. Our goal is to continue providing support for Chrome (currently 58% of our ControlCheck users are using Chrome) and push our existing IE11 users to either adopt Microsoft Edge (27% are currently using Edge) or move to Chrome.
Our Edge support will not include Legacy Edge. Microsoft has phased out support for Legacy Edge since March 9, 2021. The Microsoft Edge Legacy desktop app will not receive new security updates.
What does this mean for my hospital?
Limited Support for IE11 will mean that you can continue to use IE11 to access ControlCheck, however we will no longer be testing new features in IE11. If you identify an issue with ControlCheck in IE11, issues can continue to be reported to our Support Team at 786-548-2432 ext. 2. The ControlCheck Team will review and address critical issues.
Users can check which version of Edge they have by:
Looking at the icon. Microsoft Edge Chromium has a new blue and green icon with a wave shape.
Or, by following these steps:
- Open the new Microsoft Edge, select Settings and more at the top of the window, and then select Settings.
- Scroll down and select About Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft is actively rolling out a phased termination of IE11, which has been a key driver in Kit Check’s decision to move to Limited Support for the browser.
Additional Information from Microsoft regarding IE11
As of November 13, 2020 users will no longer be able to log into their Microsoft accounts via IE11 and Microsoft Teams will drop support at the end of November 2020.
Beginning August 17, 2021, the remaining Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support IE 11.
This means that after the above dates, customers will have a degraded experience or will be unable to connect to Microsoft 365 apps and services on IE 11.
For customers using IE 11 to access Microsoft 365 apps and services, or using Microsoft Edge Legacy as their preferred browser, Microsoft recommends Microsoft Edge and offers a range of support options to help transition.
